Panel: Collateral Damage? The Impact of Regulations on Data Management and Data Governance in Investment Management Organizations

Being in the same panel discussion with Vipul, Steve added that a solid framework must be put in place, tailored to the measures of each particular firm. However, this is not possible without a cultural shift in investment managers that will allow a change towards regulatory compliance.

Victor Anderson - Editor in Chief for WatersTechnology and Vipul Chandna - Head of Business Solutions for Sarasin & Partners were part of the same panel discussion.

Alain Dubois
Managing Director, MSCI
Keynote Address: EU Benchmark Regulation - Consequences for the Financial Industry

Alain, during his keynote speech, noticed that the face of the industry is changing, while compliance and regulations make it more complicated than ever before. However, the biggest problem will be the smaller firms which will struggle to review their governance processes.

Leaving compliance aside, Alain identified the big initiative on investment managers’ roadmaps in 2016 being to improve data quality by streamlining record keeping, transparency and governance processes.

Darell Miller
Head of Business Development, RDS - EMEA, RIMES
The Operational and Data Governance Challenges of Alternative Assets for the Buy-side

Darell, taking part in Jerry Slason's presentation, explained that RIMES commissioned Investit to conduct a research study on the challenges of alternative assets for the buy-side, as there are an increasing number of clients wanting to diversify and get more use from their multi-assets. However, they have neither data nor the expertise to accommodate this strategy.

John Simpson
Senior Vice President & Chief Ethics Officer, The Spaulding Group
Panel: Performance Measurement Data and Standards for Hedge Funds

Taking part in the same panel discussion along with Ian Blance and Damian Regan, John highlighted the Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS) as a way for firms to apply more rigor to their reporting.

GIPS is voluntary but allows the UK funds to show that they are meeting globally recognized standards and, therefore, winning new business. In order to achieve this, though, funds need to be educated on what they can do to comply with GIPS.

Jerry Slason
